Car of the Year 1968
The Ro 80, the same principle of the Wankel engine than the Spider (first production car with Wankel engine).
But some changes were done:
two rooms replaced the unique combustiekamer of the Spider.
The Bodywork looks very different than the previous NSUs: This car is a sedan.
The development of this exceptional car is launched in 1961 and the final presentation happened in 1967.
It's about a very innovative design for this era, and after the year 2000, this car still looks modern.
The CX was 0.35, this was very low for a car this time.
In 1967, the Ro80 by autopers chosen as "Car of the Year.
And at the end of the 20th century, the Ro80 was elected as one of the 30 most significant cars of the century.
In 1973, some engine improvements done. In 1977, production was stopped.
As the Spider, the Ro80 had serious engine problems.
Modern materials (eg. developed by Mazda, the Wankel license has taken over) have wear problems solved. Meanwhile, many owners of their Ro80 Wankel engine by classical motors replaced (Ford V4, Audi 2l., Etc. ..).
37,395 pieces produced.
